Avela works when everyone feels safe being themselves. These rules apply to profiles, photos, messages, group chats and anything else you share on Avela, and to how you treat people you meet through it. You agree to them when you join.
1. Be the real you
Use your own name, your real age and recent photos that show your face. Don’t pretend to be someone else, a public figure or a company. Profiles that do are removed.
2. Lead with respect
Treat people the way you’d want to be treated. Hate speech, slurs, bullying and harassment have no place here, and neither does pressuring anyone who has said no. Don’t attack anyone for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or health.
3. Keep it consensual
Never send explicit photos or messages nobody asked for. Nudity and sexual content aren’t allowed on profiles. No sexual services, and no threats to share someone’s private images.
4. Adults only
Avela is for people 18 and over. We remove anyone underage and anything that sexualises minors, and we report it. Don’t post photos of children on their own. [TODO: confirm the policy on photos that include children]
5. No scams or selling
Don’t ask for money, gift cards or crypto, promote a business, sell anything, or recruit for anything. Avela is for meeting people, not customers.
6. Protect privacy
Don’t share someone else’s photos, messages or personal details without their permission, on Avela or anywhere else.
7. No violence or threats
Threats, glorifying violence, encouraging self-harm and anything illegal will get an account removed and may be reported to the authorities. If you are thinking about harming yourself, please contact your local emergency services or a crisis line.
8. One person, one account
Keep a single account, and don’t let anyone else use it. Don’t use bots, automation or tools to get around limits.
9. Post only what’s yours
Only post photos and text you have the right to share. Don’t spam, and don’t make false reports.
10. Reporting
If someone breaks these rules, report them from their profile or your chat. Reports are private: the person isn’t told who reported them. You can report a match up to 90 days after it ended, and you can block the person at the same time. Reasons you can choose:
- Fake profile or impersonation
- Inappropriate photos
- Harassment or bullying
- Spam or scam
- May be under 18
- Something that happened offline
- Illegal content (EU Digital Services Act): you can add the country and the law concerned
- Something else
11. What happens next
- Photos are screened automatically when uploaded; a photo with nudity, violence, disturbing content or hate symbols is rejected.
- Every report is reviewed by a person on our team, who sees the report, the profile and recent messages between the two of you.
- If the rules were broken, we can remove content or suspend the account. A suspended account leaves Discover and its matches close. Serious or repeated breaches lead to a permanent ban.
- We let the person who reported know once the report has been reviewed.
- Behaviour off Avela that puts members at risk can also lead to action.
- Banned accounts don’t get refunds for purchases, except where the law requires.
- [TODO: appeals process and how a suspended person is told the reason; not built in the app yet]
