Avela

Accessibility

Avela should work for everyone. Here’s what we do, what still needs work, and how to tell us about a barrier.

1. Our goal

We aim for the website and the app to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We test with keyboards, screen readers, large text and both light and dark modes, and we fix what we find. [TODO: name the last audit and date, and the standard for EU markets (EN 301 549) if applicable]

2. This website

  • Clear headings, landmarks and a skip link, so screen readers and keyboards can move around quickly.
  • Everything works with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline.
  • Text and controls meet WCAG contrast levels in light and dark mode, which follow your device setting.
  • Text can be enlarged to 200% without losing content; layouts adapt down to 320 pixels wide.
  • Buttons and links are at least 48 pixels tall on touch screens.
  • Movement is minimal and turns off when your device asks for reduced motion.
  • Images have text alternatives, and decorative ones are hidden from screen readers.

3. The Avela app

  • Screen reader labels on buttons, cards, photos and status messages (VoiceOver and TalkBack).
  • Touch targets of at least 48 pixels.
  • Light and dark themes with contrast checked for text and control edges.
  • Swiping always has a button alternative for like and pass. [TODO: confirm in the app]
  • Respects your phone’s text size. [TODO: confirm in the app]

4. Known limitations

  • Photo verification needs a camera and asks you to turn your head or smile, which may not work for everyone. Verification is optional; everything else in Avela works without it.
  • Photos other members upload don’t have text descriptions.
  • [TODO: add findings from the first accessibility audit]

5. Tell us about a barrier

If something on Avela is hard to use, tell us what you were trying to do and on which device. In the app: Settings, then Help & support, then Contact support. By email: [TODO: support email]. We aim to reply within [TODO: response time].
